The Home Design & Idea Center in Scottsdale celebrated its first anniversary on Oct. 14, with a mix of art, music and cuisine.
The Beatles tribute band Marmalade Skies and local artist Randy Hedden entertained guests with their ensemble, Tribute Art. The seven-piece band performed while Hedden painted six-foot square portraits of each Beatle.
“It was cool to watch the canvases start to twirl, because he’d spin the picture then paint another part, then spin the picture. The paintings were really big, so I could understand why they had to spin them,” said Kim Milton, who attended the fete.
While Marmalade Skies rocked outside, the party inside was a catered affair with delectable bites at every turn, including live cooking demonstrations.
The Home Design & Idea Center (HDIC) was filled with 500 of its closest friends —a mix of the general public and HDIC vendors, said Sara Fregapane, special projects manager at the HDIC.
“The event was for the public to stroll through the showroom, especially the ones that it was their first time here, and see what we are about. Some of the vendors were in their vignettes, but for the most part, people could walk through the showroom at their own leisure,” said Sara.
As guests strolled through the showroom they could stop at various vignettes such as BSH Home Appliances and Best Home Appliances to watch professional chefs prepare delicious treats right before their eyes. In addition, area businesses Santa Barbara Catering, Market Bistro and Calistro California Bistro also provided guests with delectable amuse-bouches.
After being inspired inside the HDIC with ways to renovate and enhance their homes, guests ventured outside to listen to Marmalade Skies.
Hedden began the set by painting Paul McCartney and ended with John Lennon.
“The music was more of the flavor of who they were painting at the time,” Milton said.
When Marmalade Skies’ show ended, four lucky winners got to take one of the John, Paul, George and Ringo paintings home with them.
Overall the event was a success, Fregapane said.
